Learn By Doing
The Highland Arts Garden was started to complement student curriculum with outdoor learning through the planting and harvesting of plants. This fall will be the fifth year that teachers, parents and students are able to work in their own garden beds throughout the year. Additionally, parents, teachers and students meet on a quarterly basis in a Garden Committee to implement large projects and plan garden days. This year, the garden will continue to grow with the addition of a student garden club (more information to come).
We can use help planning and implementing garden days and large garden projects, working with teachers in their classroom gardens, planning fundraisers, and writing grants. Our first meeting will be Monday, August 26, at 3PM. We meet in Mrs. DeLong’s classroom (room 8).
Fall Garden Day
On October 2, Fourth, Fifth and Sixth grade classrooms will have the opportunity to visit the garden again! The smoothie bike will return, a large animal veterinarian will be visiting and students will be able to work in the garden on take home garden projects.
