OUR MISSION

Welcome to the Highland Arts Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Our PTO has a long history of providing support for the teachers and students at Highland Arts by helping with costs of classroom supplies, teacher support, school programs, building and playground equipment and school improvements.

Each year, the PTO has a variety of fundraisers and the proceeds are put directly to use for enhancements to the classrooms, curriculum, and school grounds that otherwise would not be possible. Such programs include: Accelerated Reader, enrichment money for each class, library books, field trips, building and grounds enhancements, classroom supplies, and recreation items for recess.

OUR BOARD

President

Cami Mitzen is taking on the role of PTO President. She loves volunteering in the classroom, planting and nurturing our school’s Garden, being involved in our Highland Arts Plays and being a Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisor. She is married to Justin Mitzen and together they love, laugh and have fun with their two kids Brytin (10 yrs old) and BreElle (14 yrs old).

For work Cami is a Flight Attendant for American Airlines. She has been flying the friendly sky for over 20 years. In her free time Cami enjoys snowboarding, hiking, traveling and camping with friends and family. What drives her is believing and seeing the Highland Arts community is a force for good for our kids and future generations.

Cami Cottrell-Mitzen

Vice President

Lolitta has been volunteering with the PTO for a year, delivering birthday balloons, or working at the ROCK Shop. She stepped in as the PTO VP for the remaining of the year. Lolitta has some great ideas on how to improve some processes overall, and looks forward to making a real change.  Her main goal is to get parents more involved in their children’s education and create a real sense of community.
Lolitta is originally from Russia and speaks three languages. She moved to the USA in 1995 and has been in Mesa for 20 plus years. After marrying her awesome husband, Steve, in 2006, they moved the community in 2008. They have one Hurricane at Highland Arts, Sami (10yrs old). When Lolitta is not volunteering her time, she is traveling, hiking, exploring farmer’s markets, baking or making people beautiful as a neighborhood hairstylist at Got Roots Salon.

Krista Puruhito

Treasurer

In Miss Harris’s first grade class Krista is better known as “Eli’s mom”. She also has 2 more future Hurricanes, Payton and Cooper. She is serving as the treasurer for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. Krista realizes that teaching young children can be a challenging job that involves parents, teachers and the community, so she wants to help engage more families and community members in school activities in an effort to support all of our young learners and their teachers.
In addition to chasing her kiddos around, Krista is also full-time faculty at Arizona State University. She teaches in the Family and Human Development program. She loves gardening, photography, traveling and camping with her family, and can be quite crafty when time permits (though it rarely does)!
